How Crusade's secret agent can help protect you from ransomware.

As the clock struck midnight this New Year’s Eve, we all hoped for a better year than the last, both personally and professionally. But we’re now just 6 weeks into 2021 and already reading reports of worldwide organisations falling foul to ransomware.

At the end of last month, UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), were reportedly dealing with a ransomware attack. And new reports detail that a US transport giant faced £7.5million in damages after becoming yet another corporate victim. We know that the attack itself likely didn’t demand that level of payment – the £7.5million loss is largely due to the downtime the corporate giant faced following the attack.

How does ransomware differ from other viruses?

Last month we wrote about the stark rise in phishing attacks – you can check out our blog here – but it’s important to understand the difference between the two. Put simply, phishing attacks are often created by an individual, usually disguised as a legitimate email/phone call, and deployed to steal information from your users. Ransomware, on the other hand, is a program that locks users’ files and demands payment from the victim in return for a key to regain access.

But it’s not all doom and gloom, and there are tools that can protect you and your business, and Crusade RMM (Remote Monitoring and Management) is designed to do just that.

Crusade RMM is like having your very own secret agent. It runs smoothly in the background monitoring for ransomware, and crucially, it will notify you as soon as ransomware has been detected. The agent will not only attempt to kill the ransomware, but it will automatically isolate the affected machine from your network to prevent the spread and minimise downtime.
